Overview
Division, Polarization, and Loss of Faith
We as a nation have fallen into a state of chaos. The people have been carved and divided into a binary partition, where its us and them. We have been polarized and drawn away from each other. We have gained so much animosity for the other side that we did in our heels in opposition and fight, and at the same time lose sight in what really matters. The result is a people who have lost faith in the system so well established by our founding father on the timeless principles of freedom and self determination. We spend so much time thinking about how its the other side who is destroying our country and setting it on the wrong path that we don't realize that all of us, as a collective, are the ones responsible for setting the nation on this path of self destruction.
Who is to blame for this division? There is a near infinite set of issues at which we can point our fingers at. However, we need to find fault in the system which allows this division to occur. In fact, it is the very system itself which incites this polarization and incentivizes hatred towards our fellow citizens and resentment towards our democratic institutions.
Our governments, nationwide, are dominated by national politics and interest groups which suppress the needs of the people, and the political climate unarguably shows that people are fed up with it. We believe in making a proportionally representative, multi-party state and restore the peoples faith in our democracy. This requires fundamental changes to how our elections and legislature are structured, but we believe that it is a necessary change to create a system that citizens enjoy being a part of and restore confidence in our government. The problem isn't Democrats or Republicans. Its a democracy that needs repair.
Our democracy is one of the oldest in the world. We don't need to reinvent the wheel; we only need to take the lessons learned since the founding of our country and make a better democracy for our citizens. Its time to get pinchy!

Our government on both the state and federal level effectively disenfranchise a significant number of voters, undermining the very principles of a democratic republic. No better example is the system for electing the president. Currently, most voters who do not live in a swing state are effectively disenfranchised and their vote does not effect the outcome of the election. A vote in PA currently has 800 times the weight in deciding the election in comparison to a vote from MD. The worst part is, this applies to nearly every level of government, especially executive positions.
Maryland is commonly cited as one of the most gerrymandered states in the entire union, with our legislature deliberately drawing our congressional districts to disenfranchise voters in order to cement control of just one national party within congress. The law allows this to occur, and the system encourages the manipulation of our voters.
Our State is dominated by a single party, whose politics are defined by the national party fueled by the overwhelming power of lobbyist and special interests. This system allows for the domination of a single party, which has maintained beyond a super majority for generations effective operating as a one party system. This is not how our democracy was meant to work!
Our goal is to have all citizens' voices represented through a stronger voting system. At a minimum, where ever its possible, a proportional system should be used. This is well demonstrated to allow for the greatest representation of the views and ideals of the people. In cases where a single candidate needs to be selected, the STAR system should be used to find candidates that a majority of the people support, rather than just the lesser of two evils.
A cornerstone of this party is strengthening the power of the citizens of Maryland. This is done by disentangling the politics of the national partys with those of the state through the independence of MD's partys. Additionally, we push for getting money out of politics, and putting it into the hands of the people. This is achieved through increasing the weight of small value donations through a dollar matching program.
As unfortunate as it might be, political parties are a fundamental reality of modern democracies. Instead of trying to figure out how to remove them, we should make them better. A multi-party system would allow for greater representation of different view points and ideals. This is much easier to achieve than you might think, with just a few tweaks to the system giving a greater feeling of representation and engagement in the government.
